How often do you need to take a shower and others myths about personal hygiene

Since childhood, we have heard that cleanliness is the key to health, but how clean should everything be and how to properly take care of yourself? Not everyone knows this.

Myth: Daily showers are necessary

Although many people believe that taking a shower every day is normal and a key to good health, in practice it can be harmful to the condition of the skin. Frequent body washing can strip the skin of its natural protective layer of oils and beneficial bacteria, which in turn can cause dryness and irritation.

It should also be taken into account that bacteria and dirt on the surface of the skin play an important role in the normal functioning of the immune system.

However, overusing antibacterial soaps can destroy beneficial microorganisms and even lead to the development of antibiotic resistance.

At the same time, lack of hygiene can lead to body odor, oil accumulation and dead skin, which can ultimately lead to clogged pores, acne and various infections.

For most people, showering every other day or even several times a week will be sufficient. However, it is necessary to take into account the individual characteristics of the body, such as skin type, climatic conditions, level of physical activity and level of comfort.

Myth: Cotton swabs are safe for cleaning ears

Using cotton swabs to hygienically clean your ears is a common practice, but in reality it can be hazardous to your health.

The cotton swab can actually push wax deeper into the ear canal, which can cause blockage, discomfort, or even cause an infection. Careless handling of the stick can damage the eardrum.

Although earwax may cause some discomfort or itching, it plays an important role in protecting the ear from drying out and harmful substances. Typically, wax moves naturally into the outer ear and is removed from the body on its own during jaw movements.

If it is necessary to clean the ears, it is recommended to use your finger, after ensuring that your hands are clean. This will prevent damage to the shell and reduce the risk of ear problems.

Myth: It’s best to apply deodorant in the morning

Most people are accustomed to applying deodorant in the morning, immediately after a shower and before leaving the house. However, a more effective way may be to apply deodorant after a shower before bed: during this period of the day, the sweat glands of the armpits are almost inactive, which allows the product to be better absorbed and provide protection throughout the day.

For best absorption of deodorant, it is recommended to wait about 20 minutes after showering so that the skin pores are freed from moisture. This will also help avoid skin irritation.

Repeated use of deodorant without first cleansing the skin can only worsen the situation and will not bring the desired effect. In case of excessive sweating or hot weather, it is worth using wet wipes before reapplying deodorant.
